Frequently Asked Questions
The questions I get most often. If something isn't covered here, just ask.
Booking & payment.
How do I book?
Scheduling runs through Jane, the practice-management platform used by most Alberta RMTs. The Book button anywhere on this site opens my Jane page, where you can see real availability, pick a session length, and confirm in a couple of minutes. Email works too if you'd rather not book online. You'll need to enter a credit card to hold an appointment however you won't be charged until after the session. For events please email me.
What forms do I fill out, and when?
Everything happens in Jane before your first appointment, so no paperwork eats into treatment time. When you book, Jane emails you a confirmation with a secure link to two things: a health-history intake form and a consent form. The health history covers current concerns, past injuries and surgeries, medications, and anything that changes how I work, and takes about five minutes. The consent form explains scope of practice, what areas may be treated, your right to modify or stop treatment at any point, and how your information is stored.
Both are stored in Jane's encrypted, Canadian-hosted records, so you only need to do this process once and let me know of any changes going forward.
How do I pay?
Pay through Jane, e-transfer, or in most cases direct billing to your insurance. Receipts are emailed automatically.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes. Gift cards are available in any amount and can be sent by email or printed. Email me to order one.
Your first session.
What does setup look like when you arrive?
I'll arrive about ten minutes early to bring in the table and set up. You'll need a clear floor space (roughly 7'×4' with room to walk around it) such as a bedroom, a spare room, or a tidy corner of the living room. The setup itself takes about ten minutes. Once we're going, treatment time is the time you booked, never less.
What kind of space do I need to provide?
A private room, large enough for the table (6' × 3'). The room should be quiet for the duration of the appointment with kids and pets settled elsewhere and electronics turned off.
What should I wear?
You'll undress to your level of comfort and lie under a sheet and blanket. Only the body part being worked on is undraped at any time.
Will you talk to me during the massage?
Only as much as you want. We'll check in at the start about pressure, focus areas, and music. After that, you're welcome to drift off in silence or chat the whole way through. Both are completely fine. I'll always speak up before changing pressure significantly or moving to a sensitive area.
Can I pause or change things during the session?
You can pause, ask me to lighten or deepen pressure, request more or less work on an area, or end the session, at any moment, without explanation. Trauma-informed practice means consent is checked at every transition, and you never have to justify a preference.
What happens after the session?
Two or three home-care suggestions will be in your inbox by the next morning such as stretches, strengthening exercises, mobility cues, or rest recommendations based on what we worked on.
It's common to feel a little tender the next day, especially after deeper work. Drink water, move gently, and let me know if anything surprises you. I want feedback, both good and constructive.
Can someone else be in the room?
For a youth/child massage, yes, the parent is welcome to remain present. For everything else, no. Confidentiality and privacy require the room be just the two of us. A partner or roommate elsewhere in the home is fine.
Cancellation & no-show.
What's the cancellation policy?
Twenty-four hours, please. Cancellations or reschedules made less than 24 hours before the appointment are billed a $75 fee to the card on file. No-shows are billed at full price. Both fees can be waived for emergencies on a case by case basis.
What if I'm sick?
Please reschedule, even at the last minute. Illness, including colds, fevers, or anything contagious, always waives the cancellation fee. I'd rather see you when you're well than risk the wellness of either of us.
Insurance & direct billing.
Which insurers do you direct-bill?
Alberta Blue Cross, TELUS Health, Sun Life / Lumino, Canada Life, Manulife, and most plans accessible through ProviderConnect. I'm an MTAA-registered RMT, which is the credential nearly all Canadian insurers require.
Will I owe anything at the end of the session?
It depends on your plan: I check your coverage and submit the claim at the end of the session, then charge only any remaining balance.
If there is a per-visit cap below my session rate (e.g. some plans cover $80 per visit) or an annual benefit that's been used up, you'd owe the difference. You are responsible for knowing what your insurance covers.
What if my plan doesn't direct-bill?
You'll get a fully itemized receipt with my registration number and association. Submit it to your provider for reimbursement. Receipts are emailed within an hour of the session.
